Mac's Rubenesque vs Benefit's Bikini-tini

If you've read my previous few posts you'll know that I've recently become obsessed with my Mac paintpot in Rubenesque that I bought in Duty Free, on the way to Venice. But over the last couple of days I've been using a similar product, that might just live up to my high expectation for it... Welcome Benefit's Bikini-tini.

To begin with Bikini-tini is a gorgeous shimmery nude colour similar to Bare Study. It lasts a really long time on my eyes, even without a primer. Similarly to Rubenesque, I love wearing this on its own as well a base for other shadows. The formula is n't quite as creamy as the paintpots but more on that later...

Mac's paintots are currently £15 each where as a Benefit cream eyeshadow is currently on their website for £15.50. Bikini-tini is actually a miniature that came in a gift set, so it's much smaller than the usual shadows. Also, another thing to note, I don't think this is the usual packaging.

As you can probably see in this swatch, Benefit's offering is slightly chunkier and less creamy in formula than Rubenesque. The formula is also quite a lot drier, but when blended out looks and feels the same as a paintpot.

When swatched, the formula and pigmentation is very similar, but Bikini-tini is definitely that bit thicker! Luckily neither crease throughout the day and I never need to reapply my shadow.

Overall, I think I definitely prefer Mac's cream shadows over Benefit's and if you were to only buy one I'd definitely say go with Rubenesque! But, I love Bikini-tini, so it's definitely still going to be a firm favourite in my make up bag!

Are you team Mac?
Or team Benefit?

  2. I'm definitely team MAC! Love Benefit's packaging and some of their blushers but that's about it. Rubenesque is next on my wishlist, such a gorgeous colour :) x

  3. I have never tried any of them, I'm always afraid that they will crease. I have been wanted to try the Mac one, so maybe I should go for it :)
