How I Clean My Make Up Brushes....

It has to be said I've always been really lazy when it comes to cleaning my make up brushes, it's such a dull time consuming chore. But recently I've been trying to clean them more often, and I've been paying more attention to keeping them in better condition and all that jazz. Although saying that, I don't have a strict schedule for when I clean them, but every couple of weeks I try to give them a good wash.

I was also recently reading Charlotte's blog post about how she cleans her brushes, and I thought it would be good to show you how I clean mine.

I start off by running a small bowl of warm water. I then add a 2p sized amount of Johnson's Baby Shampoo to the palm of my hand. Next I dip the bristles in the water and then swirl the brush in the shampoo. I then lather the brushes up until they start to look clean. I then rinse them under running water until they are completely clean. (I sometimes have to repeat this process with denser brushes)

Next I leave the brushes on a hand towel to dry for a few hours. I tend to do clean my brushes in the afternoon or evening, so they're ready to use in the morning, otherwise they don't dry in time to be used the next morning.

I've been using baby shampoo on my brushes for a while, but a normal soap or mild shampoo works in just the same way. I know that there are many brush shampoos available, but this way is working perfectly for me at the moment.

How often do you clean your brushes?

  7. What a great idea - why waste up to £15 on a brush shampoo when this works just as well?!

  8. I don't clean as often as I should!!! *guilty look*

Having said that though, I do spot clean most of them after each use, and then I try to give them a good deep clean every now and then with a similar method to the one you use. :)

  9. This is how I clean mine too, but I use a Sanex shower gel and then run a little Soap & Glory handwash through at the end so they smell nice. I can't stand using them if they're dirty and sometimes I'll just do without because I can't be bothered to clean them - so lazy!

  12. I use Johnson's too, I think it's the best way I've tried so far. Much better than just using hand soap!
